Poynton History - any books?

Postby sk12rabbit » Sat Apr 01, 2017 10:58 pm

Does anyone know if you can buy any books on the history of Poynton? If so where? Nothing on Amazon / Ebay and not seen any in a bookshop. There must be one somewhere!!! Really interested if can find one! Thanks.

Here's the regular one that pops up "Poynton a coalmining village"
Available £6.50 on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Poynton-Coalmi ... 0950876100 from Sharston books http://www.sharstonbooks.co.uk/
Just down on Longley Lane.
I'm sure I've seen a copy in the library. I had a copy once which went to a local charity shop.

The Poynton Local History Society have copies of 'Poynton - A Thriving Community' as well as other material produced by the society. Some of these publications are available to buy in Poynton Library or from our monthly meetings. Our next meeting is on Wednesday, 5 April 2017, 7.30 pm at St Pauls Community Room, Marley Road, Poynton when Professor Graeme White will give a presentation entitled 'The Magna Carta of Cheshire: The County's own Charter of Liberties'. Visitors are always welcome to attend at a cost of £2 per meeting.

There are also Les Durrant's books about Poynton History. I still have copies available of:

Poynton Then- Poynton Now

and

Poynton Collieries Looking Back - An illustrated mining history.

There is also a copy of From a Poynton Village School to the soul of the community which has loose pages.

PM me if you want a copy.

Nobody has yet mentioned another history book which is - Poynton: A village at war 1939 - 1945, published by Poynton Local History Society in 1999.

At the Anson Museum today I noticed that they had a few copies of Poynton A Thriving Community for sale at £7 - not seen this for sale for years. They also had Once Upon A Time In Poynton for sale - that's the book about all the different shops since 1900. That was £13! but won't be available again.
