Thanks Rostrevor for the information. It certainly makes interesting reading. I will certainly make contact and raise objections. Effectively they seem to be adjusting the route of the P1 via an area that would have even less users. And for residents of the higher part of Coppice Road they seem to be stuffed.

The link mentions a "staffed event":

Poynton - 13 June - 2-7pm - Poynton Civic Hall, Park Lane, SK12 1RB

This is their comment on the withdrawal of the P1 service. Yesterday the P1 went past as I was walking along Chester Road. I counted ten passengers in it. Have they thought this one through? If everybody on the west side of Poynton who used the P1 instead asked for the little bus, would this work out cheaper than keeping the P1? Detail of the options they have in mind for the little bus can be found in the first linked document at the end; it's too long to reproduce herre.

The current P1 route would be withdrawn and part of the route would be served by the proposed Route F. There would be no services between Poynton Church and Argyle Street in Hazel Grove. Any Cheshire East resident with no alternative public transport access would be eligible to use the Little Bus service.

Not true if I have understood their (somewhat garbled attempt at a) route description. The route is Waterloo Road, Coppice Road, Shrigley Road North, Green Lane, Middlewood Road, Park Lane. To get a bus to Poynton from Coppice Road it would appear that you have to get one in the "wrong" direction, and enjoy the scenery near the golf course on the way back. The only bit of Coppice Road not covered is between Waterloo Road and Hockley.

I have just completed the questionnaire. I'm rather dumbfounded by some of the options they appear to be considering, such as charging people with bus passes to use a "little bus" instead, restricting the operating hours of the little bus, and restricting its use to people with "severe mobility" problems.

If you use the P1, please complete this questionnaire. Make sure that anybody you know who uses the P1 and has no internet access is aware of what is going on. The people who will be most disadvantaged by these proposed changes are likely also to be the people least likely to be aware of how they can register their objections.

Completed and sent. At least they didn't ask how much you earn and which paper you read.

High Peak received the proposed time tables from Cheshire East a couple of days ago. As was pointed out, there is no left turn out of the bus stop at the Park and Ride along London Road. Did the desk men not realise that the egress will need redesigning just so their 392 service can follow a route they want.

Keep filling in the forms objecting to the proposed demise of the P1 route.

That would require Cheshire East (a) having sufficient local knowledge to be aware of this issue, which I strongly suspect they don't, (b) persuading SMBC to spend money on something that will be of no benefit to Stockport residents.

As I understand it, the Town Council is primarily interested in ensuring that the P1 route is retained. I have completed their online questionnaire. I was tempted to say that I was male, very old and pregnant, but resisted the temptation.

It would help their cause if the P1 ran at anything like the advertised time. The other day I waited for one on Green Lane. It went past towards Middlewood at 15 minutes past the hour, then returned ten minutes later. Surely if the bus is running that late, you don't then have an extended break at the terminus before setting off back. Not surprisingly, I and the other gentleman who boarded at the same stop were the only passengers. I suspect that any other potential passengers would have assumed that it was not running, and given up when after 20 minutes there was still no sign of it. It's also supposed to connect with the Stockport 392 on London Road South, with a 6 minute wait, but often the 392 - which often runs early - has gone before the P1 arrives. A connection is no good if you can't rely on it.
