A555

Postby Tony471 » Wed Jul 31, 2019 7:22 am

As I got on the bypass this morning at Poynton @ 05.30 , the surface water was still bad , BUT , as one reaches the coned off area it is still flooded, I was doing around 50mph and it nearly brought my car to a standstill , the thing is as it was 05.30 nobody was on it so it just looks like road as it was very gloomy.

Wouldn't surprise me if it closed again today due to safety.

ps the tribes in the tribes in the Amazonian rainforest are better engineers with drainage , and they use leaves and bamboo.

Radio Manchester today at 12pm reported that the A555 between Bramhall and Heald Green was still closed due the flooding , a representative from Stockport council said that the pumps could not cope with the extreme weather conditions we are experiencing .

Guess what! she said that the pumps might not be suitable for purpose :o

I dont think the powers that be realise that most of the A555 is now open , when i came home from work yesterday as the day before ,at the Junction with Styal Rd one cannot cross over onto A555 (Eastbound) as it states road closed, (but) drivers, including me are driving around the cones and then are being ushered off at the Belfry only to join the A555 across the roundabout.

My view is that workers are so concerened on the pump issue at the Poynton end that they do not realise (or have forgot) that they have left cones and closed signs further westbound down the carriageway.

Half hour queing to get off at the Belfry just to get on again across the road is not good.

I saw traffic yesterday and this morning going Westbound , as i drove Westbound this morning 05.30 , i came off at the Belfry (because i do) and there was nothing stopping traffic going past this junction , but when i went around the roundabout i looked over and it was still closed Eastbound

There’s was/is a drainage problem under the roundabout, yesterday there was an aggreko generator on the carriageway

In case anyone hasn't seen it yet, the BBC had an update yesterday on the flooding issue on the A555 (and A34 Alderley Edge bypass):
